Acclaimed Comedian to Play Special Intimate Gig at The Lemon Tree

Comedian Doug Stanhope, widely considered as carrying the torch for American stand-up is to play a one-off intimate gig at Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree this spring.

His first visit to the Granite City, on Thursday, April 7, will offer North-east audiences an opportunity to see his two-time Time Out New York award-winning show.

Tickets for the gig go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, February 2, online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall, His Majesty’s Theatre and The Lemon Tree and are expected to sell out quickly.

“Doug Stanhope coming to Aberdeen is a real coup for APA. He is a huge star on the stand-up circuit and seeing him in the intimate space of The Lemon Tree Lounge will be a truly memorable event ,” said Aberdeen Performing Arts head of programming Ben Torrie.

“We are excited to add him to the fantastic comedy line-up at our venues in 2011.”

Doug has appeared on television on both sides of the Atlantic, hosting Comedy Central’s ‘The Man Show’ and appearing on ‘The Howard Stern Show’, NBC’s ‘Late Friday’ and BBC’s “Floor Show Live”. Last year he was the Voice of America on the BBC’s ‘Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe’.

He has appeared at multiple major comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Aspen US Comedy Arts, Chicago Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where he won the Strathmore Press Award for Best Act of the Fringe in his debut year. He is also one of the headline acts appearing at Glasgow’s Comedy Festival next month.
